As part of our Green School Biodiversity theme, the senior room children built a mini-beast mansion
Construction
of the Mini Beast Mansion 25-01-17
Our current
theme for green schools is Biodiversity.
- Today we made a hotel for bugs
- We collected turf, blocks, old slates, logs, moss, wooden pallets, old terracotta pipes, flowerpots, bamboo, bog deal and decayed leaves
- First we found a perfect spot to place the Mini-Beast Mansion
- Then we cut the pallets in half and stacked them on top of each other
- Then we put layers of turf in between each pallet to stabilize it
- Then we placed four old slates on the top of the pallets to keep out the rain
- We placed the bricks, flowerpots, logs, bamboo and moss in between each layer of pallets to attract different types of insects
- The holes will encourage different insects to crawl in and out
- We hope to attract lots of bees, butterflies and other insects to the Mini-Beast Mansion
- We are hoping to achieve our 5th Green Flag
